Announcements and News

New features on the website include an area to post related events. Local societies such as ARCE and the Humanist Society, as well as ASU events on the departmental or student level, can be posted here if they are relevant to the ancient world and/or archaeology and anthropology. If you have something you would like us to post, please send the information to one of our site administrators, Jayne Reinhard or Almira Poudrier.

Also, there are several new fora for open discussion between members.
Please explore the site and its options at your leisure!

For our local Egyptophiles, it looks as if the pyramid of Pharaoh Teti's mother has been found at Saqqara (Teti was the first king of the 6th dynasty, a few hundred years later than the 4th dynasty rulers that created the great pyramids at Giza). A link to a news clip has been posted in the "forum" area of the site.

Related Events

If you have events that you would like us to post here, please send the details to either of the site's administrators, Jayne Reinhard or Almira Poudrier.

Student Colloquium of Solis Diaboli (ASU's Classics Club)
Instituted prior to the evening AIA lectures, the student colloquium centers around student field work and research. The colloquium meets at 3:30 and lasts for roughly one hour, including presentation(s) and discussion. It is usually held in Coor Hall, exact location TBA.
November's speaker, recent graduate Ivy Faulkner will be speaking about her fieldwork this past summer in Macedonia. Everyone is welcome!

Again since we have so many Egyptophiles here in the Valley, I thought you might be interested to hear of another lecture to be given on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Prof. David Hernandez de la Fuente will speak on "Religious Fundamentalism in 5th century Egypt and the Classical Tradition" from 10:40 - noon in ECA room 385 on the Temple Campus. ECA is the Engineering Center, Wing A, and is located near the center of campus. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Dept. of Religious Studies and the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
